The United States government has decided to sue oil company BP in connection with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Other companies have also been named for contributing to the leak that polluted hundreds of kilometres of the Gulf coast before it was stopped in July.
BP, rig owner Transocean, and others will be asked to pay damages and clean up costs to the US government.
The Justice Department has said the investigation is continuing and more defendants and charges could be added later.
The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig blowout in April killed 11 workers and spilled about 4.9 million barrels of oil over beaches and fishing grounds.
The spill led to thousands of people losing their jobs.
