Huge waves have battered China‘s shoreline in the south-eastern part of the country.

Strong seas were forced onto the shore by torrential rain and gale-force winds from Typhoon Megi.

Zhangzhou City, which is right in the path of the storm, has battened down as it anticipates the strongest winds to hit the region for the last 20 years.

Nearly 200 thousand people have been evacuated from their homes and flights and ferries have been forced to cancel.

The storm has already been through Taiwan, where it left a trail of devastation.

Mudslides have claimed the lives of 11 people in Taiwan with twenty more people missing.

The worst damage by Typhoon Megi was done in the Philippines, which is now cleaning up.

At least 36 people died in the Philippines and rice and corn crops were destroyed.
