Hindus and Jews ask EU and UN to halt France’s racism engulfed Roma maltreatment

Nevada (US), Aug 14 (ANI): Hindus and Jews want immediate intervention of European Union (EU) and United Nations (UN) to halt the xenophobia and racism engulfing France.

Noted Hindu statesman Rajan Zed; and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich, prominent Jewish leader in Nevada and California in USA; in a joint statement in Nevada today, said that France’s treatment of Roma (Gypsy) people was simply inhuman. French President Nicolas Sarkozy had announced to dismantle 300 Roma settlements, out of which over 40 had already reportedly been shut up, thus leaving many Roma homeless, and there were plans to deport 700 of them.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, and Rabbi Freirich further said that this was plain racism and attempt to use poor Roma as scapegoats to make political capital in full view of EU and UN. Even the religious elite of Europe was keeping mum on this unjust Roma crackdown, which was really sad as religion clearly told us to help the helpless.

Council of Europe, European Parliament, and UN should urgently intervene to halt the devastation of the lives of voiceless Roma. Instead of unleashing repression, France and Europe needed to work on social inclusion and rehabilitation of Roma communities, Rajan Zed and Jonathan Freirich argued.

Europe’s most persecuted and discriminated community, Roma were reportedly facing apartheid conditions in Europe.

Roma reportedly regularly encountered social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalization, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse, etc., Zed and Rabbi Freirich pointed out.
